Penn Libraries Toolbars
About
The Penn Libraries Toolbar is a custom-made web browser extension for University of Pennsylvania students, faculty, and staff.
It provides a persistent search box that allows you to search:
- The Penn website using Google
- Penn Library databases, e-journals, FAQs, Library web pages and more using FindIt!
- Franklin Library Catalog by Title, Keywords, Author and Journal Title
- VCat, the Library Video Catalog, for Videos and DVD Collections in the Penn Library
- Databases such as EBSCO Megafile, JSTOR, ABI/Inform, PubMed, ScienceDirect and WorldCat
- Google and Google Scholar
It also provides links to frequently used Penn and Penn Library websites, Webmail, Ask a Librarian, Blackboard and the Penn Library social bookmarking tool, PennTags.
Internet Explorer Toolbar System Requirements
Required: Internet Explorer 6.0+
Internet Explorer Toolbar Installation Instructions
- Click on Install Toolbar. A "File Download" dialog box will appear. Select Run. A security warning about unknown publishers will appear. Select Run again. A Penn Toolbar Setup box will appear allowing you to choose the folder in which to install the toolbar. Click the Install button to start the installation. Internet Explorer should launch and you should see the following message, "IE Toolbar has been installed".
- For 'Add to PennTags' to work, you must allow pop-ups windows from upenn.edu.

Uninstall Internet Explorer Toolbar
To uninstall the Internet Explorer toolbar:
- Close Internet Explorer.
- Open the Windows Control Panel (usually: Start Menu > Control Panel)
- Choose Add or Remove Programs .
- Scroll down to Penn Toolbar and click on it.
- Click on Change/Remove
- When asked "All running IE Windows will be closed before toolbar's Uninstall. Continue?" , Click Yes.
Enhancement Requests
- Make IE Toolbar search selection persist between searches
- Add Penn Directory Search
- Allow users to customize their toolbars
